What is active in June 2026
The campaign is time-sensitive because both official pages list the same June 1 to June 30, 2026 window. The headline is maximum 1,000 yen cashback, but the amount depends on the topping type and Paidy payment route.
- Benefit A: first time using Paidy in povo 2.0, buy a yearly topping of at least 19,800 yen, and change the payment to 12 installments by 2026-06-30 to target 1,000 yen cashback.
- Benefit B: first time using Paidy in povo 2.0 and pay for a subscription topping with Paidy to target 300 yen for 30GB or 150 yen for 5GB.
- The cashback is one time per person. If both benefit routes apply, the official terms say the 1,000 yen route is applied.
Why the payment angle matters
For foreign residents, the useful point is not just the reward amount. povo positions Paidy as a way to set payment from the app with email and an SMS-capable phone number, so it can be worth checking when a credit card is inconvenient or when you prefer postpaid billing for a larger annual topping.
- Paidy still has its own screening. The official Paidy campaign page says the 12-installment route needs identity verification and may not be available depending on the result.
- 12 installments are not automatic. The official steps say you pay first, then change the povo charge to 12 installments in the Paidy app by the deadline.
- Installment fees are described as free only for bank transfer and bank account transfer, so check your actual repayment method before treating the monthly amount as final.
Do not confuse this with visitor data-only setup
This campaign is most useful when you are comfortable managing povo 2.0 for Japan life or a longer backup line. It is not a reason for a short-stay visitor to buy a yearly topping or to expect phone-number functions from a data-only product.
- povo's data-only plan is eSIM-only, cannot make calls or send or receive SMS, and needs a separate SMS-capable voice line during setup.
- Paidy registration itself asks for email and an SMS-capable mobile number, so a data-only line cannot solve every payment or verification step by itself.
- If you only need maps, translation, hotel apps, messaging, and web access during a trip, start with the povo Japan SIM visitor guide or the data-only eSIM guide.
When the cashback is actually worth considering
The campaign can be a good fit if you already planned to buy a larger yearly topping or a subscription topping and you can complete the Paidy conditions without adding risk. It is weaker if you are buying data only because the cashback headline looks attractive.
- Good fit: Japan residents, students, workers, or long-stay users who use povo as a main or backup line and can receive SMS, pass Paidy checks, and manage payment deadlines.
- Consider the 1,000 yen route only if a yearly topping already matches your real data use. The official examples include 120GB/365 days, 360GB/365 days, and a limited 1.2TB/365 days topping through 2026-06-30.
- If you are switching from another carrier, check the separate Honkiwari conditions carefully. povo says the Paidy campaign can combine with that 40% au PAY balance route for eligible MNP users, but only under the official conditions.
Application checks before you chase the offer
Treat the cashback as a final layer after the plan decision. The practical blockers are still device support, SMS, payment approval, data needs, and whether you need a normal Japanese phone number.
- Check whether you are opening calls + data or data-only. Calls + data is the route for a phone number; data-only is for internet access and cannot handle carrier SMS.
- Keep Wi-Fi, another SMS-capable line, email, the povo app, and the Paidy app ready before buying a topping near the deadline.
- Use the plan comparison and FAQ if you need SMS, banking, housing, school, work, or 2FA. Use referral links only after checking current official terms.
