Who should use this offer

Official povo pages checked on 2026-07-11 show the campaign running from 2026-06-08 with no announced end date. It is designed for a new Calls + Data registration or an eligible MNP user who expects to keep using monthly data in Japan, not for a tourist buying a short-stay data-only eSIM.

• The eligible subscription choices are 5GB for ¥1,380 per month and 30GB for ¥2,780 per month; the 0.5GB subscription is excluded.
• New registration or MNP from an eligible carrier can qualify, but transfers from au, UQ mobile, or povo1.0 are excluded from this campaign route.
• The first month is not free at checkout. The eligible amount is returned later as au PAY balance after the payment and campaign conditions are met.

Follow the seven-day setup order

The value depends on sequence. Treat SIM activation as the start of a short setup window, not as the final step.

• Activate the Calls + Data SIM during the campaign period.
• Link the au ID you will use for the reward to the povo account before buying the topping, then buy the eligible 5GB or 30GB subscription by 23:59 seven days after activation.
• Start using au PAY with that linked au ID before the balance is granted, and complete the topping payment by the stated due date.
• Expect the qualifying balance around the end of the month after the topping purchase. Check the live rules before activating because the offer can change or end.

Check the phone-number and identity route first

This campaign excludes povo Data Only. That is good news only if you actually need a Japanese mobile number, normal calls, or carrier SMS for banking, housing, school, work, delivery, or 2FA—and can complete Calls + Data identity verification.

• povo's current identity page accepts a My Number card, driver's license, or residence card for Calls + Data online verification.
• For a residence card, povo currently asks for at least 90 days remaining. An address marked undecided or an update recorded on the back can block that document route, so check the official page before applying.
• If your real task is maps, translation, train apps, and chat during a short visit, compare the povo Japan SIM visitor route or the data-only guide instead.

Know what happens after month one

Subscription Toppings renew automatically, so the campaign is a recurring-data decision rather than a one-month coupon. The current 5GB page says the next purchase occurs on the corresponding date in the following month.

• The normal monthly price continues after the first eligible refund: ¥1,380 for 5GB or ¥2,780 for 30GB under the checked offer.
• You can cancel only the subscription Topping in the povo app without cancelling the line; remaining data stays available through its validity period.
• An automatically repurchased subscription is not covered by the eight-day initial-contract cancellation system, and subscription data cannot be used overseas. Set a reminder before the renewal date if your stay or usage may change.

Use this decision checklist before activation

Choose the offer when you need a resident Calls + Data line, can finish identity verification, expect monthly 5GB or 30GB use, and can manage au ID and au PAY. Skip it when you need only arrival data, cannot front the first payment, or do not want automatic renewal.
